Roll up, Roll up the circus is in town. Giffords Circus provides wonderfully whacky, good old fashioned, family entertainment. Giffords has been touring the UK every summer since 2011, a vision that’s been brought to life by a whole range of talented individuals. The village green inspired circus features a wide variety of entertainment from slapstick comedy with Tweedy the clown, to Italian gymnasts, miniature ponies and Russian Dachshunds (?), there is truly something for everyone.
After driving through the stereotypical, beautifully British countryside we arrived at Giffords. An array of burgundy and baby blue wagons litter a rather scorched field, all of which provide traditional circus themed refreshments and gorgeously designed keepsakes. You are spoilt for choice with popcorn, sweets, homemade pizza and the acclaimed Circus Sauce restaurant. Stationary, bags, T-shirts, jewellery, posters are all available to buy whilst you are there, including the exclusively designed Emma Bridgewater mug (but don’t worry they have an online shop too!).
When entering the big top there is a buzz of excitement as everyone waits in anticipation. For 90 minutes, you can sit back and marvel at the amazingly talented performers who showcase heart-pounding stunts as well as some super cute four-legged entertainers! The attention to detail within the circus is what really makes it; everything is beautifully created and crafted from the costumes to the set design and props. The entire show is accompanied by a live band, which brings the performances to life whilst providing humorous sound effects.
Unfortunately, we missed out on the opportunity to try the food at Circus Sauce, which prides itself on its locally sourced, seasonal ingredients and communal dining experience. Be sure to buy a ticket beforehand as it tends to get booked up pretty quick! I cannot wait to go again next year and experience the new acts and performances as well as the quality food at Circus Sauce after the show. However, if you want to see this year’s marvellous show, the 2018 summer tour doesn’t finish until the end of September so there is still time to grab a ticket to witness the magic for yourselves!
