Located on South Lambeth Road, Stockwell Continental is a fabulously (yet reasonably priced) Italian inspired cafe, restaurant, and bar. After experiencing their beautiful brunch about a month ago, which consisted of the best bacon and egg sandwich made with fresh sourdough (YUM,) a few of my friends and I decided to book a table for dinner. Stockwell Continental has a relaxed, laid back atmosphere with amazingly friendly and helpful staff.
For drinks, we were spoilt for choice, with an array of wines, beers, spirits, and cocktails we all managed to decide on a margarita, which did not disappoint as it was the perfect balance of sharp and sweetness. If you are pushed for time I would recommend popping in for a cocktail (or two… or six), as they start at £5 with the most expensive only being £8, great prices for London if you ask me!
The dinner menu features a great selection of antipasti, if you’re in a group I would suggest ordering a few of these and sharing, that way you can experience a variety of dishes on the menu! We chose the tomato and basil arancini balls and the burrata with basil oil and sourdough. The arancini balls were simply delicious, packed with flavour and served with a tomato and chilli sauce that really packed a punch (we even asked for more of the sauce to have with our mains!). The burrata was light and creamy which was delicately flavoured by the basil oil, plus you could tell the sourdough was extremely fresh (all made in-house of course).
The food menu is predominantly made up of their homemade pizzas which are all topped with various different ingredients with a few pasta and meat dishes also! For mains, we all had one of their infamous wood-fired pizzas, mine being the ‘Spinach’ one that was topped with tomato, fior de latte, chilli, garlic and an egg. For someone who doesn’t particularly LOVE pizza, this was incredible. The base was beautifully thin and crisp (not doughy or soggy) whilst the chilli and garlic gave an amazing flavour without being over powering. My friend ordered one of the pizzas that was on their specials board. This had a creamy mushroom base, rather than a tomato one, and was topped with parmesan and prosciutto (needless to say it was delicious also).
Overall, if you want delicious and authentic tasting Italian food at a surprisingly affordable price then look no further. But if you are in a rush or are looking for a great drink pit stop then Stockwell Continental also has a great selection of cocktails and alcoholic beverages that can be enjoyed in their cosy and relaxed environment!
